Landworks
Landworks is a re-integration charity based in Totnes, England, dedicated to providing a pathway back into employment for people at risk of imprisonment or recently released from prison. The initiative operates on a 2-3 acre site and focuses on creating a supportive environment in which participants can develop practical skills, gain self-esteem and reintegrate into society. Founded by Chris, who initially aspired to be a farmer, Landworks emphasizes the importance of acceptance and community. The program fosters a safe space where people can work together, learn various trades such as gardening, pottery and carpentry, and share meals, which is essential for building relationships and trust. The initiative has successfully reintegrated more than 250 people back into society since its inception in 2017. Landworks operates on a model that prioritizes social rehabilitation over profit, and relies on multiple funding sources, such as the National Lottery and various charitable foundations. The organization also engages with the local community through open days and educational visits, with the aim of changing perceptions about ex-prisoners and promoting understanding.
