Nanofreeze (Biocold Technologies S.A.S BIC)
Biocold Technologies (operating as Nanofreeze) is a Colombian biotech startup that has developed a pioneering biodegradable refrigerant gel based on nanotechnology and proteins derived from the ice-nucleating bacterium Pseudomonas syringae. Founded by two industrial designers from Universidad de los Andes, the company transforms this scientific discovery into three commercial product lines: foldable coolers for biological sample transport (in partnership with Compensar), cold sheets for food export logistics, and energy-saving panels for commercial refrigerators. The gel, currently under international patent application, is the first biodegradable refrigerant of its kind on the market, enabling significant reductions in food loss, CO₂ emissions, and energy consumption across cold chain operations.
