Banco de Alimentos Bogotá
About
Banco de Alimentos Bogotá is a non-profit foundation, legally constituted under the Archdiocese of Bogotá in May 2001, that rescues surplus and near-expiry food from industries, Corabastos market, and 34 rural municipalities and redistributes it to over 1,200 civil-society organisations serving approximately 562,000 vulnerable people annually. With 160 paid staff and over 10,000 volunteers — including students from 58 universities — it operates a solidarity-aport model where recipient organisations contribute 10% of the commercial value of food received, avoiding pure charity dependency. It is a member of the Global Food Banking Network present in over 50 countries.
