Côme Marchadier
Ethnographic research on citizen participation and food democracy in Nantes
Côme Marchadier is a researcher at the Laboratoire Droit et Changement Social (Université de Nantes) whose ethnographic work examines how citizen participation is reshaping local food policy in Nantes, France. Drawing on four case studies — a cooperative supermarket, a territorial food project, a permaculture garden and a shared logistics platform — he analyses how participatory techniques and material transformations interact to produce new forms of legitimacy in food governance. His work shows how debates over land use, infrastructure and the meaning of "good food" define the ecological transition in concrete, local terms, and how food democracy takes shape as a living experiment between citizens, farmers and policymakers.
